Official Visit to Damascus, the Capital of Syria, with Our Minister of Trade

Our Chairman Mr. Yaşar DOĞAN, took part in the delegation headed by our Minister of Trade Prof. Dr. Ömer BOLAT and visited Damascus, the capital of Syria, to hold official meetings with valuable representatives of our business world and our Board Members, and to discuss our bilateral trade relations, cooperation opportunities, what can be done in the reconstruction process of Syria and the joint steps we can take as two countries.

Within the scope of the meetings in Damascus, under the presidency of our Minister of Trade Prof. Dr. Ömer BOLAT;

a. Bilateral and inter-delegation meetings were held with the Minister of Economy and Industry of Syria Mr. Nidal al-ŞA’AR and the Minister of Transportation of Syria Yarub Süleyman BEDİR. During the meetings, bilateral trade issues, investments, infrastructure, transportation, energy, finance, health and customs issues of Turkey and Syria, joint steps to be taken, strengthening land, sea, rail and air transportation between our country and Syria and cooperation opportunities in the reconstruction of Syria’s transportation infrastructure were discussed. It was noted that the new period offers an important opportunity for the multidimensional development of mutual relations.

b. Syrian Finance Minister Mohamed Yasser BARNIA and his delegation met. During the meeting, issues such as strengthening the institutional infrastructure of the Syrian economy, developing the banking infrastructure and reconstructing Syria were discussed.

c. Syrian Land and Sea Ports General Administration Director Kuteybe Ahmed BEDEVİ met. During the meeting, development and modernization of customs gates between our countries and cooperation in the field of customs were evaluated. Representatives of private sector umbrella organizations provided information to Mr. BEDEVİ about possible cooperation with Syria in the new period.

d. Members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Aleppo Chamber of Commerce and Industry came together for a working breakfast. Steps that can be taken in areas such as production, investment, customs, logistics and financing for the further development of commercial and economic relations between our countries in the upcoming period were evaluated.
